Changzhou University (CZU) is located in the national historical and cultural city- Changzhou, which boasts a history of over 3200 years and a highly developed economy in the south of Jiangsu Province. Set up as a public university in 1978, the university has became a leading multidisciplinary institution with a particular focus on engineering, science and management programs and has established strong links with the industry and governmental organizations. This is the “Industry-University-Research Cooperation” characteristic university in China. “Responsibility” is the school motto, which inherits the responsibility for the pursuit of excellence to cultivate the advanced professional talents with creative mind, strong responsibility, cooperation spirit and international vision.
1. History
Changzhou University was established in 1978, its predecessor was Changzhou branch of Nanjing Chemical Engineering College. As a provincial full time university in the beginning of China Reform and Open, it carried out the responsibility of developing chemical engineering and new energy science. In 2010, it was renamed as Changzhou University approved by Ministry of Education. Then in 2011, a co-construction agreement was signed by Jiangsu provincial government, China National Petroleum Corporation(CNPC), China Petrochemical Corporation(SINOPEC) and China National Offshore Oil Corporation(CNOOC) for developing Changzhou University. It gave a great improvement and opportunity for Changzhou University to promote its theoretical researches and practical experiments in some key disciplines, such as chemical engineering and technology, materials engineering, and oil and natural gas engineering. After 39 years developments, it walks on the road of leading local university with distinctive features for a better development.
2. Discipline and Programs
Changzhou University has a rather complete discipline categories and distinctive subjects setting. At present, there are 16 colleges and departments, together with 15000 full time students(includes 1600 postgraduates and 8000 adult education students). Additionally, it sets Ligongpu Social Education College(Further Education) and Huaide College for independent management. It offers 68 undergraduate programs that cover 10 more discipline categories, 131 postgraduate programs, 1 doctoral program, 8 professional postgraduate programs. Particularly, Chemistry and Material Science have ranked 1% in global ESI disciplines. Among them, there are 3 national characteristic programs,7 provincial brand programs and 2 provincial excellent programs.
3. Academic Facilities and Scientific Research
Changzhou University develops a well-equipped facilities for teaching and research. There are 3 campuses(Wujin campus, Baiyun campus and west Taihu Lake campus), containing over 1.5 million books and valuing around 370 million of scientific research instruments. The professional faculty cultivation system has an increasing development, which has 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 1 national university students practice base. To stimulate the independent innovations and promote scientific researches, it constructs 1 national key lab, 7 provincial key lads, 2 provincial collaborative innovation centers and 17 provincial engineering centers. What’s more, it has built a partnership with domestic 40 more large petrochemical industries and 30 more governments. The close cooperation brings 20 co-cooperation provincial engineering technology centers, school-enterprises joint research and development centers, 295 “Industry-University-Research” bases, 369 school-enterprises alliances. All of the developments and innovations need a high-quality teaching and research team, it has attracted lots of excellent teachers and formed an balanced faculty structure. At present, it has 1500 more faculties and staffs, in which there are 192 professors, 2 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 national candidates of New Century Talents Project, 2 young and middle-aged chief scientist of Jiangsu Province “333 Projects”,etc. In the 2017 Chinese University Teachers Level Ranking, Changzhou University ranks 93.
4. Great Achievement
Changzhou University is a pioneer in industry-university-research path and even awarded the Innovation Prize of Chinese Industry-University-Research Cooperation in 2016. With the direction, it has been awarded 3 national 2nd prize for progress in science and technology, 1 national 2nd prize for technology invention, 77 provincial scientific achievements. In the past five years, it achieved 205 National Science Foundation of China(5 key projects and 3 key research plan), 32 projects of National Social Science Foundation of China(4 key projects), 1511 invention patents authorization, and published 2217 papers in SCI, EI and CPCI-S. In 2016, it has even ranked 37 for the authorized invention patents in Chinese universities. In 2017, the latest data in Nature Index shows that Changzhou University ranks 65 in China mainland universities. Meanwhile, the students also performed an outstanding performance in some important competitions. In the 13th and 14th “Challenge Cup”Extracurricular and Academic Contest, these students awarded 1 grand prize, 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes and 3 third prizes. In 2014 and 2016 “Creating Youth” National University Students Start-Up Contest, they awarded 3 gold prizes and 1 silver prize.
5. Communication and International Cooperation
Changzhou University has set up close relationships with over 50 renowned overseas universities from over 20 countries, such as Chile, Finland, Germany, Japan, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, UK, US, etc. Signing over 70 cooperation agreements successively. The university offers 6 joint degree programs with three partner universities in Canada, Ireland and US, and double degree programs with a number of prestigious universities. CZU receives international students from over 40 nations. In 2016, 225 domestic students studied the short-term or long-term overseas programs, and over 30 countries’ 260 students studied here. Changzhou University has been approved and supported by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing to establish Confucius Institute with Universidad Bolivariana de Venezuela in 2016. Based in the local university, CZU will offer Chinese language training programs to university students, the community and the enterprises, and promote cultural programs and research projects between the two universities. In 2013, it launched the first Center for Thai Studies in eastern China, and aimed to promote research on Thailand and its education, culture, economy, and politics, to strength the links with Thai universities and other institutions, and to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between people of both countries. Besides Chinese-taught degree programs, two English taught Bachelor’s programs in International Business and Petroleum Engineering are offered to international students.

Here it has over 60 international students now, there are many activities and associations for international students to share different culture with Chinese students. As to the global research and cooperation, from Thai Studies Center to Confucius Institute, students, professors, and researchers focus their efforts on issues around the world. Many of the 16 schools and colleges and 68 undergraduate programs are involved in global activities, combing with the researches to make more co-cooperation programs. On top of that, there are 225 students studying abroad for different short-term and long-term programs in 20 countries around the world. Till now, it has signed over 70 cooperation agreements and received international students from over 40 nations. To prepared a better education resources, it has set up the Chinese-taught degree programs, two English taught Bachelor’s programs in International Business and Petroleum Engineering for international students.
Changzhou University is proud to say the campus canteen services excels in many measures-quality, variety, flexibility, convenience, or pure deliciousness. It gives students enormous variety of choices every day. The 2 canteens, each with its own unique look and food choices. In the canteen 1 (in front of the lake), meals and dished can be ordered. Unless allergic to something, be adventurous, just pick a dish at random! Or choose from the selections. The teachers’ canteen is found on the west side of the 3rd floor and is not open to students during lunch time. A halal restaurant is open on the east side of the 3rd floor as well and its halal meal program offers certified halal meals. In the canteen 2(nearest to North Gate), buffet style dished can be chosen, accompanied with rice. Just point at what you want. If you get tired of the foods in the canteen, there is a wide of variety of foods and restaurants outside of the north gate of the university. In the campus canteens, international students will experience an important part of campus life.
1. I really want to study at your University, but I can’t speak Chinese, can I be instructed in English?
Answer: The program is fully English medium program.
2. How is the living standard in Changzhou? What about the canteen in the University?
Answer: The living expense here is relatively reasonable, for example, about 100 USD for your food per month. Changzhou University campus canteens provide various delicious foods for international students at reasonable price, Halal restaurant is also available.
3. How can I arrive in Changzhou city, the location of University?
Answer: : If there is no direct flight to Changzhou, the recommended flight is transit from Beijing to Changzhou(around 2.5 hours), or transit from Guangzhou to Changzhou(around 2.5 hours). Students can choose the travel route according to their location.
4. Can you send a vehicle to take us from the local airport to the University?
Answer: The university can provide airport pick up service for the students in group from Changzhou Benniu International Airport to campus. But students should send detailed departure schedule to our university’s representative minimum 7 days in advance so that we can pick up without delay. Airport Pick-up Service is only available during Registration time.
5. How can I exchange some Chinese currency for my pocket money when I just arrived in China?
Answer: Students can exchange some Chinese currency in bank for shuttle/bus ticket fare and pocket money in the big international airport when they arrive in China. And students can buy telephone card from business counter in the airport to give international call and domestic call if students need.

Answer: There is one civil airport, three train stations and many buses to many cities in China. There are convenient public facilities for telecom and internet, you can buy telecom card to call in any time and there are lots of internet pub for going on internet.

Answer: Even though the program is taught in English, international students must study Chinese language according to Ministry of Education, China. Chinese language classes are just offered three times per week, and international students are required to pass the basic level. Besides, it will be helpful for students in daily life if they learn some Chinese language
