2. Discipline and programs 

Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics enjoys a well-balanced development of multiple disciplines in engineering and technology, management sciences, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences with the characteristics of aeronautics, astronautics and civil aviation. Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  consists of 15 colleges, e. g. College of Aerospace Engineering, College of Energy & Power Engineering, College of Mechanical Engineering, and College of Civil Aviation. Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has set up 98 research institutes, such as unmanned aircraft vehicle research institute and helicopter technology research institute, and 51 laboratories including 1 National Key Laboratory, 12 Ministerial Key Laboratories, 2 National Engineering Teaching Bases and 3 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, providing the first class facilities and conditions for teaching and research. NUAA offers a wide range of programs including 52 undergraduate programs, 199 master programs, 80 doctoral programs and 12 postdoctoral programs. There are two first grade disciplines including Navigation Guidance & Control, Power Electronics and Power Drives and nine second grade disciplines including Aircraft Design, Engineering Mechanics, and Mechanical Manufacture & Automation that are all honored as national key disciplines. There are key 15 disciplines with the characteristics of national defense and 5 key disciplines that are recognized as key disciplines of Jiangsu Province. 

3. Academic facilities and scientific research 

Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has a faculty with significant academic prestige and educational experience. The full-time staff number more than 3075, including more than 1330 professors and associate professors, 406 Ph.D. supervisors, 10 CAS academicians, 3 members of Academic Degree Committee under the State Council, 13″Changjiang Scholar Award” professors, 19 professors with national or provincial recognition for their outstanding contributions, as well as 135 experts who enjoy special government allowance. 

4. Great achievements 

During the 9th Five-Year-Project, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has taken on 600 projects science and technology development including the “863 Project” and some national defense projects. Many have been successfully applied. Since 1978, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has received 917 provincial awards and 49 national awards for scientific research. It has remained one of the top 10 universities in China since 1991 in terms of the total number of achievements and awards in science and technology research and development. At the same time, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has always paid great attention to the quality of education and the development of its students. Since 1989, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has won a total of 63 Teaching awards at provincial levels, 18 of which are of national distinction. Students from NUAA have done good jobs in the National competition of Mechanics and Mathematical Modeling for undergraduates. So far Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has produced more than 55,000 talents of different specialties. As one of the most famous universities in Nanjing city, it has attracted more and more international students for its excellent study environment and conditions in recent years, and it also takes great advantages in some key courses, including Flight Vehicle Design and Engineering, Computer Software Design and Internal Economics & Trade and so on. 5. Communication and international cooperation 

Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges. It has established cooperation with more than 100 famous universities, research centers and enterprises all over the world. About 770 international students from 30 countries, e.g. France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Philippine, Iraq, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Kenya, etc. are studying for doctoral, master and bachelor degrees. In2009, it has been appointed by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China to accept international students with Chinese Government Scholarship. 

International students will be housed in the International student’s dormitory at Jiangjun road campus (for undergraduates) and at Ming Palace campus (for Masters and PhD students) with all the modern facilities. Normally 2 students share an air-conditioned bedroom and an apartment consists of 3 to 4 rooms. Living room is equipped with a TV, study table, couch and micro-wave oven. Wash room consists of washing machine, hot/cold shower and toilets. Students will also have telephone and internet access.

Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics being one of the key university in China, gives its student a perfect destination to spend their 4 years and beyond in a home like environment. At present, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  has two campuses: Ming Palace Campus (situated on the ruins of the Ming Palace) and Jiangjun Road Campus (situated in Jiangning Economic and Technological Development Zone), covering an area of 173 hectares with a building floor space of 650,000 square meters. Jiangjun road campus is adorned by the beautiful trees and different flowers, state of the art facilities for sports and recreation; it is also considered as the garden campus where students will have a relaxing and soothing time with great facilities empowering them to excel on their studies. At present, there are about 770 international students at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics  learning different disciplines of different scientific areas. 

There are more than 10 cafeterias serving almost all the varieties of Chinese delicacies. Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics also has “Halal canteen” in both campuses. An average meal can be with meat, vegetable and rice/noodles. Occasionally students can also try eating out, at the several eateries just off the campus premises. Some of the dishes you might prefer at school: fried rice with scrambled eggs, scrambled egg with fresh tomatoes, scrambled egg with fresh tomatoes, Kung Pao chicken, Sweet and sour pork/chicken, sizzle-plate beef, a green vegetable probably from the cabbage family, sizzle-plate eggplant, spinach, Chinese French fries. 

1. Are all the courses of these programs taught in English?
 
Answer: Yes, because they are fully English medium programs. 
 
2. How is the living standard in Nanjing city? What about the canteen in the University?
 
Answer: The living expense here is reasonable, for example, around 150USD for food cost per person a month. There is Muslim window set up for international students. 
 
3. How can I arrive in Nanjing city, the location of University?
 
Answer: If there is no direct flight to Nanjing, the recommended flight is transit from Hong Kong to Nanjing (around 2.1 hours), or transit from Beijing to Nanjing (around 2 hours), or transit from Shanghai to Nanjing (around 1 hour), or transit from Guangzhou to Nanjing (around 2.4 hours). Students can choose the travel route according to their location. 
 
4. How can I exchange some Chinese currency for my pocket money when I just arrived in China?
 
Answer: Students can exchange some Chinese currency in bank for shuttle/bus ticket fare and pocket money in the big international airport when they arrive in China. And students can buy telephone card from business counter in the airport to give international call and domestic call if students need. 
 
5. How are the transportation, telecom and internet settled in Nanjing City? 
 
Answer: There is one airport, two train stations, some buses and subways. There are convenient public facilities for telecom and internet, you can buy telecom card to call at any time and there are lots of internet pubs for going on internet. 
 
6. How is the climate in Nanjing City?
 
Answer: Nanjing has a humid subtropical climate and is under the influence of the East Asian monsoon. The four seasons are distinct, and the annual temperature is around 16 °C (60.8 °F).
 
7. How is China’s Engineering Education in the world?
 
Answer: China is a largest producer of engineering graduates in the world.

Answer: China has become the second largest economy and this has influential role in the global economy.

Answer: Yes, a student could open a bank account in his name to keep his surplus money safe. He could also use this account to have his family remit any additional money as required.
 
10. Is learning Chinese language compulsory? 
 
Answer: Even though the program is taught in English, but international students must study Chinese language according to Ministry of Education, China. Chinese language classes are just offered in the first two years, three times per week, and international students are required to pass the basic level. Besides, it will be helpful for students in daily life if they learn some Chinese language.

Answer: There is no English language test requirement for Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs taught in English. However, it is strongly advised that students with good background in English apply for the programs.

Answer: Students are allowed to work part-time only with the consent from the university.
