Tianjin University

Tianjin University is a National Key University directly under the administration of the Ministry of the Education, and its history can be traced back to Peiyang University, the first modern university in China, which was founded on October 2, 1895. It was renamed Tianjin University after the nationwide restructuring of colleges and departments in 1951. In 1959, Tianjin University was identified as one of the first batch of the 16 National Key Universities designated by the government, and it is also among the first group of institutions of higher learning to be included in the “211” and “985" Projects of national investment for developing world-class universities. During the past years, Tianjin University has made significant contributions to economic and social development, which must be due to its cultivation of a large number of high-level talents, and its outstanding achievements.

To build a strong nation, the education system must be set up and developed for the preservation of talent. The establishment and operation of the University aim to promote education for the ultimate improvement of national strength and prosperity, in accord with the University’s motto of "Seeking Truth from Facts”. The University exalts preserving its own traditions, in which the spirit of “precision in learning and strictness in teaching” is encouraged. Patriotism and devotion to the country are also considered worthy goals to hold onto, tied in with multiple avenues to encourage undaunted inquiry into academic truth, to foster competent talent, to pass on the cultural heritages, to buttress the progress of our nation, and to create a promising future.
 

In 2014, THE CONSTITUTION OF TIANJIN UNIVERSITY was officially approved by the Ministry of Education and to further define the University’s overall development goals facing the new century and the development and promotion of quality education. In 2015, the new campus, Peiyangyuan Campus was opened and commenced operation, and nearly 20 thousand students, faculty, and staff live there. The University also celebrated its 120th anniversary that year.

Tianjin University will uphold its people-oriented vision, promote comprehensive reform in an all-round way, constantly improve the systems of a modern university, and strive vigorously toward the goal of becoming a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and TJU traits.

Weijin Road Campus: Youyuan, Liuyuan ABCD District, Expert Building, 50 Zhai, 51 Zhai

Peiyang Garden Campus: Liuyuan A

1. The Youyuan Building of the Weijin Road Campus has six floors, all of which are single rooms.            

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) There are 12 classrooms in the building.

(3) On the first floor, there are public toilets and self-service laundry rooms. 

2. The Liuyuan Building of the Weijin Road Campus is divided into four districts: A, B, C, and D.   

A. Liuyuan A has five floors, all of which are double rooms.            

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) There are four classrooms in the building.

(3) The first and second-floor bathrooms and shower rooms are exclusive for girls, while the third-- fourth-, and fifth-floor bathrooms and shower rooms are exclusive for boys.

(4) There is a self-service laundry room on the second floor.

(5) Public kitchens on the second to fifth floors.

B. Liuyuan B has five floors, all of which are double rooms.

(1) There is a public toilet on the first floor.

(2) The three-story bathroom and shower room are exclusive for girls, while the four-story bathroom and shower room are exclusive for boys. 

C. Liuyuan C is a special classroom area.

(1) On the second floor, there are multi-functional conference rooms and rooms 201 and 202 are dedicated classrooms.

(2) There are 11 classrooms on the third floor.

D. Liuyuan D has five floors, all of which are double rooms.            

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) There are four classrooms in the building, one on the first floor, three on the third floor, and four on the fourth floor.

(3) There is a conference room on the second floor of the building.

(4) There is a self-service laundry room on the third floor.

3. The expert building of Weijin Road Campus has four floors, all of which are double rooms.

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) There is a public toilet on the first floor and a self-service laundry on the second floor.
 

4. 50 Zhai of Weijin Road Campus has six floors, all of which are double rooms.

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) Every floor has a public kitchen.

(3) There is a self-service laundry room on the first floor. 

5. 51 Zhai of Weijin Road Campus has six floors

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) The type of room on the first floor is three-bedroom and four-bedroom.            

(3) The type of room on the second to sixth floors is a double room.           

(4) Every floor has a public kitchen.

(5) There is a self-service laundry room on the first floor.

6. Liuyuan A of Weijin Road Campus has six floors, all single rooms

(1) There is a service desk in the hall.

(2) Every floor has a public kitchen.

(3) There is a self-service laundry room on the first floor.
 

7. Clara Hotel has six floors, all double rooms

There is a service desk in the hall.

Qualification of Applicants

• Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport
• A bachelor’s Degree program applicant should hold a high school diploma and be under the age of 30. Applicants who are still under the age of 18 as of September 1, 2025, must submit the original guardian certificate issued by the Tianjin District Notary Office, and the Guardian must be a permanent resident of Tianjin.

 Language Proficiency requirements:

• Chinese-taught program applicants need to submit HSK certificates. A minimum requirement of HSK4 (Score 195 or above) for Engineering/Science or HSK5 (Score 180 or above) for business/liberal arts is needed.

• English-taught program applicants need to submit an English proficiency certificate (English native speakers are exempted). TOFEL: no less than 80, IELTS: no less than 6.0.

Applicants should have good conduct, good physical and mental health, and be willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and Tianjin University.

Application Documents

• Scan of highest diploma or original notarized diploma. (A scan of the pre-graduation certificate is required if the applicants have not gained the certificate. Please resubmit the notarized copy of the highest diploma before registration).

• Scan of a notarized copy of the academic transcripts or scan of international standardization test results.

• Photocopy of passport.

• Applicants applying for programs taught in Chinese need to submit an HSK certificate.  Applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese or whose instruction language is Chinese during the highest educational level can be exempted from the HSK certificate. Applicants who have not met the requirement of Chinese proficiency level should take Chinese language courses for one year, and start major studies when achieving the required HSK certificate.

• Applicant applying for programs taught in English needs to submit an English proficiency certificate.

• Applicants who are not in China at present must submit a scan of the Certificate of Non-Criminal Records.

• Applicants who are now in China must submit a scan of a Photocopy of their Visa and Transfer Certificate from their present school.

• Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please select the appropriate time to have a medical examination as the medical results have a 6-month validity).

Admission

TJU enrolls students based on the evaluation of the applicant’s academic scores, language proficiency, and interview performance (The interview date will be announced afterward).
