About
Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is one of China’s oldest and most prestigious universities, directly administered by the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1896 as Nanyang Mission College in Shanghai, the university relocated to Xi’an in the 1950s, forming the historic “Westward Relocation Spirit,” centered on patriotism and national service.
XJTU is a comprehensive, research-intensive university with strengths across science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, and law. According to ESI (May), 19 disciplines rank in the top 1% globally, with engineering among the world’s top, reflecting the university’s substantial research impact.
The university hosts over 62,000 students, including nearly 4,000 international students from 136 countries, and is supported by more than 3,800 full-time faculty members. XJTU operates four campuses—Xingqing, Yanta, Qujiang, and the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour (iHarbour)—which serve as a central hub for advanced research and innovation.
With extensive global partnerships, including Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, joint schools with Politecnico di Milano, Confucius Institutes, and the University Alliance of the Silk Road, XJTU maintains a strong international presence. Its mission is to establish a presence in western China, contribute to national development, and pursue world-class excellence, guided by its long-standing academic tradition and spirit.

Admission Process
Admission is open to international students aged 18 to 25 who meet the university's academic, language, and assessment requirements. Applicants from Belt and Road countries are eligible to apply for an additional scholarship of 15,000 CNY per year, subject to evaluation.
The application process begins with preparing all required documents.
