Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a residential university with over 60,000 students living on campus. All the international students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology can get on-campus accommodation. Students have access not only to extraordinary campus resources but also to “Optical Valley” recreation and outdoor attractions. Living and learning are intimately intertwined at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. HUST provides international students clubs & associations, health & recreation, banks & post office, culture festival, science festival, international festival as well as studying, housing, dining and transportation.

International Student Dormitories:

There are four main apartments for international students and the distributions are as follows:

East district: Bojing Pavilion

Middle district: Friendship Apartment (mainly for scholarship students)

West districts: Huahong Apartment (mainly for postgraduate students)

  2. Need to be in good health
  3. Age Limit: Bachelor Degree:18-25 Years old; Masters Degree:18-35Years old; PhD: 18-40Years old;Chinese Language:18-40Years old
  4. Need to have good academic result in highest education degree
  5. For English Taught Program need to have IELTS 0 or TOFEL 80 or Equivalent English Proficiency Certificate
  6. For Chinese Taught Program need to have HSK -4 or above (ChineseProficiency Certificate)

  8. Need to have skill on research & publication(For Masters and PhD Degree )
  9. Need to have publication on good journal (For PhD Degree)

Following the opening policy as the guideline, engaged in comprehensive, multi-level international exchanges and cooperation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has entered into partnerships with more than 100 renowned universities and research institutions of 26 countries and regions, such as the United States, the Great Britain, and Germany, etc. Annually more than 1,500 talented foreign scholars come to give lectures.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology has been accepting international students studying in China since 1960s. For over 50 years it has cultivated more than 4,000 international students of various majors from more than 120 countries and districts. Most of them have obtained bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degree that conferred by Huazhong University of Science and Technology. They have become outstanding engineers and technicians, famous medical experts, government administrators or officials in their embassies in China after graduation. Currently, there are more than 1745 international students from around 120 countries studying in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and 1500 of them study for degrees, 40% are masters and doctors.

The International Student Office has been established for the service and administration of international students. Huazhong University of Science and Technology has well educated and professional staff to assist and help international students adapt the camp life, deal with daily study, visa and activity affairs and get better improved in this distinguished university. Besides, there is also a special Students International Communication Association to guide freshmen to better understand this university and the life here, hold one-one tutor program, intercultural activities and Chinese Corner for international students.

International students have outstanding performance in Huazhong University of Science and Technology as well as in China. TASSING TAGNE, REMI CLOTAIRE (Lei Meng), from the Republic of Cameroon, won gold prize in the First National Chinese Language Contest for international students in 2008; then JUSTINE BRANDON R SEALE (Su Jie), from Barbados, the first prize in the provincial level of Chinese Language Contest in 2010; MOTENG TAGNE PATRICK (Meng Tai), also from Cameroon, the first prize in the Chinese Language Contest of Hubei Province in 2011.

There are many student dining rooms in the campus of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, including Yunyuan, Xue 1, Xue 2, East 3, East 4, East Garden and Dongli in the east of the campus, West 1, West 2, Baijing, Xiyuan and Baihui Garden in the west of the campus. The food appeals extremely to students’ appetite and so does the environment.

Bakery, café and canteen are also in great number inside the campus and they also provide delicious and inexpensive food to students. Three Muslim canteens are available to the international students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

1. I really want to study at your University, but I can’t speak Chinese, can I be instructed in English?

Answer: The program is fully English medium program.

2. How is the living standard in Wuhan city? What about the canteen in the University?

Answer: The living expense here is approximately 150 USD for your food per month. Many dining rooms and three Muslim canteens with good environment are available to international students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

3. How can I arrive in Wuhan city, the location of University?

Answer: If there is no direct flight to Wuhan, the recommended flight is transit from Hongkong to Wuhan (around 2 hours), or transit from Beijing to Wuhan (around 2 hours), or transit from Shanghai to Wuhan (around 1.5 hours), or transit from Guangzhou to Wuhan (around 1.5 hours). Students can choose the travel route according to their location.

4. Can you send a vehicle to take us from the local airport to the University?

Answer: Sure, we can provide airport pick up service for the students in group from the local airport - Wuhan Tianhe International Airport to campus. But students should send detailed departure schedule to the college’s representative minimum 3 days in advance so that the university can pick up without any delay.

5. How can I exchange some Chinese currency for my pocket money when I just arrived in China?

Answer: Students can exchange some Chinese currency in bank for shuttle/bus ticket fare and pocket money in the big international airport when they arrive in China. And students can buy telephone card from business counter in the airport to give international call and domestic call if students need.

6. How are the transportation, telecom and internet in Wuhan City?

Answer: Wuhan is the center of central China and national transportation center. It is very convenient with one airport, three train stations and many buses to many cities in China. There are convenient public facilities for telecom and internet, you can buy telecom card to call in any time and there are lots of internet pub for going on internet.

7. How is the climate in Wuhan City?

Answer: Wuhan's climate is humid subtropical with abundant rainfall and four distinctive seasons. Wuhan is known for its oppressively humid summers, when dewpoints can often reach 26 °C (79 °F) or more. Spring and autumn are generally mild, while winter is cool with occasional snow. The annual mean temperature is 16.63 °C (61.9 °F).

8. How is China’s Engineering Education in the world?

Answer: China is the largest producer of engineering graduates in the world.

9. How is China’s Business and Management Education in the world?

Answer: China has become the second largest economic entity, which has made China an influential role in the global economy.

10. Can a student open a Bank Account?

Answer: Yes, a student could open a bank account in his name to keep his surplus money safe. He could also use this account to have his family remit any additional money as required.

11. Is learning Chinese language compulsory?

Answer: Even though the program is instructed in English, but international students must study Chinese language according to Ministry of Education, China. Chinese language classes are just offered in the first two years, three times per week, and international students are required to pass the basic level. Besides, it will be helpful for students in daily life if they learn some Chinese language.
